How to Maintain Your Mercedes Benz

You are now in the driver’s seat of your dream car. The Mercedes Benz is a luxury vehicle that holds a certain mystique. It has a quality that has been immortalized in song and is often seen as a status symbol. It is a beautiful vehicle that everyone knows the moment they see it or hear its name. Now that you are an owner of such a popular item it is important for you to know how to maintain your Mercedes Benz.

Despite its luxury status your Mercedes follows many of the same rules that over cars do. To ensure that it continues to drive at peak performance you will want to perform regular check-ups to make sure that your prized possession is running properly. Your new car comes with extra attention required and there is no detail that is too big or too small. Listen to your car and keep your eyes open. Your car usually tells you to want it needs all you have to do is listen. If something sounds off or feels weird it is time for a check-up. Regular check-ups are important but you can also take your car in anytime something doesn’t seem right. Things happen and the sooner you get it taken care of the better.

An important part of maintaining your vehicle’s performance is by checking the oil. Park your car on a level surface and make sure that the engine is switched off. Wait for five minutes before you perform any tasks. Start the engine briefly to give the oil time to come down from the engine and into the reservoir. Pull the dipstick out of the guide tube and wipe the oil off the stick. Slide it into the guide tube until it stops and then pulls it out again. If the level is between min and max mark the oil level is correct. Add as much oil as necessary if it is not correct.

Check your vehicle’s coolant level when the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine has cooled down. A 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water keeps the cooling system in proper shape and prevents corrosion and deposits from developing inside the system. Check to make sure that the engine is at working temperature. To check the temperature turn the SmartKey to position 2 in the ignition lock and check the coolant temperature display in the instrument cluster. The temperature must be below 158 degrees to open the reservoir. If you need more coolant turn the cap half a turn counterclockwise and add coolant.

Keeping the outside surface of your vehicle clean is important but it is important to remember that underneath your car gets really dirty. Daily drives and changing weather caused the buildup of dirt, debris, and leaves. Constant trips in a multitude of different temperatures and weather types, rain or shine the underside of your car is getting filthier by the second. Run it over a hose to get rid of snow that has splashed all over it and to get leaves off your vehicle. Consistent washes can prevent further problems from occurring.

Getting behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz is a dream come true for car owners but without the proper maintenance and care your dream could quickly become a nightmare. Be a responsible car owner by listening to what your car is telling you, check your vehicle’s oil, checking your car’s coolant system and maintaining cleanliness beneath your car. Some details are easier to forget but all are just as important to maintain a Mercedes Benz that runs to the best of its ability.
