A Checklist for Buying a Car

We all have to experience buying a vehicle at some point in our lives, and while it can be an exhilarating and rewarding experience, there are a few things to consider before you go rushing out to look at cars. Your budget needs to be calculated, and then there’s the type of vehicle you are going to buy, and let’s not forget insurance. So, with this in mind, here is a checklist to help make sure the car buying experience is a positive one.

  • Work Out your Budget – The very first step is to figure out how much you can afford to borrow, and by working out an affordable monthly repayment, you can soon discover how much you can borrow. Of course, there are other factors involved in applying for a loan, such as salary and existing outgoings. There are online providers of car finance who can quickly obtain a provisional loan approval, and once you have that, you can begin to look at vehicles.

  • Type of Vehicle – There are so many types of vehicle for sale today, with SUVs and 4X4s making a surge in the auto markets in the past decade. If you are a family man, then this should play a large part in your choice of car, and with the many benefits of an SUV, it does make for the ideal family vehicle. If, for example, you were looking at a hi-end performance car, then maintenance should be considered, and if you feel that might be a stretch, it might be best to lower your sights. Head turning supercars are very nice indeed, but like thoroughbred racehorses, they need a lot of attention.

  • Energy Saving – The modern vehicle is energy focused, with many hybrid versions that run partly on fuel and battery, or a combination of the both. Electric cars are definitely the future, and the major manufacturers are already rolling out electric cars at their production plants. Even if you can afford to run a gas guzzler, it isn’t exactly eco-friendly, and with modern engines, you can have the performance without the massive cylinder capacity.

  • Insurance – Absolutely essential, and if you have an existing policy for a previous car, that would likely give you cover on the new vehicle, although it is always best to check. If you have no insurance at the current time, there are scores of online insurers, and you can easily obtain a fast quote on any car. Once you have made a decision and are planning to make the purchase and drive the vehicle away, you can take out online insurance and will be covered from day one.

  • Vehicle Warranty – If the car is new, it will have a warranty, and probably will give you the first few services for free, and if the car is used, it should still have a reasonable warranty, especially if you buy from a dealership.

For most people, buying a car is an exciting and much anticipated event, and by ensuring the above points are taken into consideration, the experience should be a positive one, and your dream car will be sitting on the drive.
